No there hasn’t been a massacre here on the farm, I’m referring simply to the title I give to warm, sultry days like this when the goats laze about for hours at a time in between intense bouts of grazing.
As I go about the farm I look at my animals regularly. Whenever anyone is lying down, head on the ground, flat out – I always make a note and come back a few minutes later. You never know – it could be someone unwell or even dead. It does happen. The problem is, “dead goat” behaviour is the norm in weather like this so I’m up and down to the fields more than ever!
Still there’s no better sight than a field full of dozy goats and kids!

Beautiful Photographs! My herd do the exact same thing, laze about speard flat out on the grass looking dead! Its great that they feel they can safely do that, shows that they are happy contented animals!

Great to see them do it but wish they would stick a flag up over their head saying “I’m ok mum – you needn’t come and check!”
Glad yours do it too – not just me trudging up and down. The worst are the ones who are so fast asleep they get left behind when the rest of the flock move on! They are all on their own on the field and you’re certain they are dead until you creep up to them and they leap up in front of you!
