I finally finished my own cashmere shawl a couple of days ago. I thought if I don’t get it done now I won’t stand a hope once lambing and kidding really get under way with a vengeance!
The pattern is Anniken Allis’s Ocean Waves which I found very good as a first lace project. For me, having the instructions in written form as well as schematic worked best for this first time. The lines of instructions were not too long so I didn’t make too many foolish mistakes. Schematics are probably essential as a sub for hugely long lines – you would lose your place far too easily.
I used my own 4 ply cashmere - 6 x 25g skeins. 4 green and 2 variegated. The cashmere is commercially spun by R Gledhill in Lancashire. A wonderful firm with old fashioned values but state of the art, cutting edge machinery. A winning combination!Colours were what I had lying around at the time but using the two multi colours with the green works well I think. I’ve learned a huge amount from this and will definitely be going back to Anni for another pattern. I’ve got the bug for lace knitting now!
